Nancy Jo Hernly

January 30, 1942 — February 28, 2021

Nancy Jo Hernly, 79, of New Castle passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Heritage House of New Castle after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s. She was born January 30, 1942 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Jackson) Barkdull.

A 1960 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, she married the love of her life, Steve Hernly on August 27, 1961. She was a full time homemaker and a part time farmer. Nancy was an active member of KYN “Know Your Neighbor” Club, Farmerama and First United Methodist Church in New Castle. She loved cooking for her family & friends and tending to her flowers. Nancy was a devoted grandmother and loved taking care of her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Steve Hernly; children, Susan Wallen of New Castle, Chris Hernly (Ashlee Dotterer) of New Castle; grandchildren, Tyler Wallen, Devon Hernly and Lukas Hernly; great grandson, Zachariah Wallen; sisters, Martha (Walter) Stoots and Judy (Thomas) Hedrick; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a niece, Michele Stoots.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Heritage House for their excellent care of Nancy.

Services will be private for the immediate family only with Mark Herbkersman officiating. You may watch the service live at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 3, 2021 . Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Michael J.
