Neva Esther Kissick

April 6, 1915 — April 15, 2020

Neva Esther (Laib) Day Kissick, 105, a long-time resident of New Castle, IN passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Fishers, IN on April 15, 2020 after an extended illness.

Neva was born on April 6, 1915 on a small farm in Princeton, IN, graduating from Princeton High School in 1933. She moved to Evansville, IN and worked a variety of jobs before obtaining her beautician’s license. She worked as a beautician for ten years. In 1947 she met and married Louis Day and gave birth to their only child, Esther Louise in 1949. In 1953 Louis received a promotion from the Employment Security Division to work as Assistant Manager in the New Castle, Indiana office. Louis passed away in 1958. Prior to that, in 1954 Neva started work for Modernfold in New Castle. She worked first in the factory and then in the office until her retirement in 1978. In 1976 Neva married Arthur Kissick whom she met while working at Modernfold. She inherited a large wonderful stepfamily as a result. Arthur passed away in 1988.

Neva enjoyed traveling later in life with her siblings and her daughter and son-in-law to many places in the Western US and the Virgin Islands and Canada.

At home Neva was a great cook and baker and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, upholstering, crocheting and home decorating. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of New Castle and a member of the Women’s Society’s Ruth Circle and the Searchers Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis Laib, Jr. and Stella Bates Laib and siblings Eva Mae Hetzel of Chandler, IN, Lora Leona Laib and Doyne Elwood Laib both of Princeton, IN, Cloyd Donald Laib of Indianapolis, IN and Virginia Lee Harris of Owensville, IN and nieces Doris Westfall, Beverly Todd, and Wende Harris.

She is survived by her daughter, Esther Louise (Day) Furbee and her son-in-law Brent Furbee of Fishers; nieces and nephews Barb Harris of Owensville, IN, Debra Laib of Indianapolis, IN, Greg Laib of Kingston, NY, Janice (Mervin) Nolt of Evansville, IN, Carol (David) Howard of Fenton, MO, William (Maggie) Hetzel of Carrollton, TX, and Rita Martin of Evansville, IN; sister in law, Dorothy Laib of Princeton, IN; and several great nieces and nephews. Survivors also include many of her extended stepfamily including stepson Gerald (Violet) Kissick of New Castle and step daughter-in-law Marilyn Kissick of New Castle.

The family would like to thank her many caregivers over the years.

A private immediate family only service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
