Perry "Jack" Roberts

July 12, 1939 — March 24, 2020

Perry “Jack” Roberts, 80, of New Castle passed away Tuesday March 24, 2020 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on July 12, 1939 in Wayne County, KY, a son of the late Earl Roberts and Nona Lee (Abbott) Brittenham.

Jack was a 1958 graduate of Straughn High School where he played on the basketball team and ran track. For the better part of the last 70 years, Jack has been wheeling and dealing. When Jack was in high school, he would buy and sell cars with his dads help. It was easy for Jack. He was a natural at it. You could call him a natural born businessman.

After graduating from high school, Jack started his own business selling autos, trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. He was quite the entrepreneur, he could buy and sell anything. Jack never met a stranger. If you ever ran into him, you might have been a stranger when you met, but when you left you were friends. That is all because Jack was blessed with the gift to gab. Jack has many friends. Several would come to him when they needed help or advice. They could count on Jack to be honest and tell them the truth, even if it wasn’t what they wanted to hear.

Jack also had other admirable attributes that made him the man he was, such as, having a heart of gold and putting the needs of others before his own, extremely generous, being very straight forward, honest and very matter of fact. Most importantly, Jack was a Christian man and attended church on a regular basis. A typical weekly schedule for Jack, even later in life, was work six days a week and church on Sunday. Jack had several enjoyments outside of work and number one on that list was spending time with his family. He was a true blue cowboy who enjoyed raising cattle, riding horses and motorcycles, boating and just relaxing by a camp fire.

Jack is survived by his best friend, his rock, the love of his life for the past 44 years with whom he has been inseparable, his wife, Julie (Miller) Roberts of New Castle. Children, Tammy (Alan) Neal of New Castle, Perry (Debbie) Roberts of New Castle, Cindy (Kenny) Stockton of Cambridge City, Chan (Linda) Roberts of New Castle, Shelly (Greg) Bell of Yorktown, Amber (Rodney) Fesler of Luther, OK. Grandchildren, Perry Kingery, Micah Beach, Cassie Mahaffey, Aimie Stearns, Dorinda Mills, Chandler Roberts, Taylor Bell, Chayse Bell, Holden Bell, Landon Bell, Kynnadi Bell, Mayson Bell, Kaitlyn Fesler and Karissa Fesler; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Linda) Roberts of Dublin; sister, Jill (Larry) Shelton of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by a brother, Jr. Roberts.
