Rachel Ione Bettag, 88, of Knightstown passed away November 14, 2020. She was born on August 4, 1932 in Hendricks County, Indiana to the late Charles Oakley and Delia Rachel (Phillips) Crews.
A resident of the Knightstown area since 1963, Rachel was a Registered Nurse at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield until her retirement at the age of 65. She married the love of her life, Jerome T. Bettag on May 11, 1985. Rachel was a member of the Knightstown Friends Church and attended Knightstown Christian Church. She loved helping people and caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, mending and participating in the activities at Wickshire Fort Harrison.
She is survived by her children: Kevin (Janeice) Schmidt; Eric (Pamela) Schmidt, Brian Schmidt, Anita Jackson, Marvin (Hiromi) Schmidt, Rodney (Jena) Schmidt, Gordon Schmidt, Valerie (Tom) O’Laughlin; 14 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; siblings, Rosemary Irelan and Paul Crews; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerome T. Bettag; siblings, Carl Crews, Tom Crews and Ruth Butler.
