Raymond E. Smith, 87, of Knightstown, passed away Friday May 13, 2022, at Heritage House in New Castle. He was born January 1, 1935, in Patriot, IN to parents Ed and Irene Smith.
In 1952, Ray went to work for the Government at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison, IN. Later, he was rated as a Scientific Photographer and supported testing at JPG in Yuma, AZ; Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, MD; Ft. Wainwright and Ft. Greely, AK; Nevada test site in Mercury, NV and AVCO in Richmond, IN. Ray and his wife Alicia owned and operated Photogenic Lounge in Lewisville. He was also employed as a route man for Bell Vending as well as the Elks and Eagles of New Castle. Ray ultimately retired from Bonne Coppersmith in Knightstown.
Throughout life, Ray played basketball and baseball as well as enjoyed bowling, but he truly loved the game of golf. He was also an avid Colts fan. Ray was a member of Murat Shrine, Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge of Patriot, a Golden Eagle at Lodge 933 and American Legion Post 152.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alicia, whom he enjoyed over 50 years of marriage with; his parents; sister, Ruth; brother, Larry; and in-laws, Russel and Ruth Bromagen. He is survived by son, Vaughn; sister, Roberta; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Heritage House for their wonderful care of Ray.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 2-4pm at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with services to follow. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion Post #152. Masonic services will also be conducted. Condolences and memories of Ray may be shared at
