Richard Leon Moore

July 11, 1928 — December 13, 2020

The Lord needed another Farmer. Richard L. Moore, 92, of New Castle passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at his residence for the past 63 years, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 11, 1928 in Mooreland a son of the late Ernest and Ethel (Dakins) Moore.

Richard graduated from Mooreland High School in 1946 and attended Anderson College. A lifelong farmer, Richard began farming in 1944 on his grandfather’s 80 acres. Richard had experienced some vast changes in farming since 1944, from horses being the main source of power and production to the GPS guided equipment that is used today. At times, Richard was one of the largest livestock producers in Henry County. Richard loved basketball and played semi-pro basketball for the Economy Royals that represented Indiana in the ABA in Atlanta, GA in 1948. He loved visiting and spending time with family and friends but his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life.

Richard worked at Chrysler Corp, Dickerson Machine Shop, Avco Manufacturer, G. S. Supinger Canning Co., and served on Mooreland’s Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Blue River Optimist Club, past member of the Gideon International, Farmerama Farm Club of Henry County, member of Mooreland Cemetery Association, past member of the Eastern Indiana Pest management, director at Farmer’s Elevator for 18 years.

Richard’s most important membership was with the First Christian Church of Mooreland, where he has been an active member since 1939 and served as a Deacon for 40 years and Trustee for many years. He was the great-grandson of Miles Marshal Moore, the Founder of Mooreland in 1882.

He is survived by his three children, Kent (Diana) Moore, Mooreland, Kelly (Randy) Brumley, New Castle, and Karla (Charlie) Teater of The Villages, FL; daughter in law, Marcia (Lonnie) Massengale, Hagerstown; grandchildren, David (Lora) Moore, Hagerstown, Clint Moore, Hagerstown, Erin (Josh) Cline, Mooreland, Kara (Bryce) Wilson, Springport, Andrew (Kelsey) Moore, New Castle, Ashley (Kyle) Beavers, New Castle, Kyle (Sarah) Brumley, Pendleton, Alex (Kaitlin) Teater of Lombard, IL, Dana (Ben) Swanson of Rockford, IL; seventeen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Patricia A. “Pattie” Moore, a son, Kevin Moore; granddaughter, Jennifer Moore; special friend, Maxine Morton.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at First Christian Church in Mooreland with Pastor Nathan Edwards and Byron Dealey officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm Monday, December 21 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Memorial contributions may be sent to The J.
