Richard Lee Pickett, 86, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at his home. He was born September 24, 1932 in New Castle to the late Iona (Ashley) Pickett Richardson.
Richard was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School and was employed with Jessie French Piano Company when he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country for four years. Upon his discharge from the Air Force in June of 1956, he met his soon to be wife of 62 years, Sandra Tranter, in September and married her on December 31, 1956. He then enrolled at Ball State University and worked at World Bestos (Firestone) from 1956 – 1975. Richard joined Ball Corporation in 1975 and retired in 1995 as Director of Distribution. He had a phenomenal memory and could remember dates and events well. Richard was a great story teller. He was a good man, caring father and faithful husband and friend to all.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra Pickett of New Castle; children, Kenneth (Marlene) Pickett of Orlando, FL and Robert Pickett of Wichita, KS; 4 granddaughters and 5 great-grandsons.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Baird Richardson; a daughter, Karen Medina and daughter-in-law, Dena M. Pickett.
The family would like to thank friends and neighbors for all their concerns and support. They would also like to recognize Dr. Williamson and his caring staff at the Forrest Ridge Cancer Center along with the Henry County Hospice for the exemplary care given to Richard and his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
