Richard “Dick” J. Schmeisser, 83, of New Castle and former resident of Forest Ridge passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 in New Palestine at the residence of his son, Glen. He was born July 18, 1936 in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Albert J. and N. Jane (Ross) Schmeisser.
He was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School & Ohio University. He retired in 1991 from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service. Staff Sergeant Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1955-1957. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus fourth degree, American Legion and a past president of AARP. He assisted with United Fund, an advisor in Junior Achievement, Cub Scout leader, and an avid bowler, bowling in the Chrysler League. He enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, art museums, NASCAR races and enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include three children, Barbara S. (Andrew) Budek-Schmeisser of New Mexico, Glen A. (Kelli) Schmeisser of New Palestine and Gregory (Janet) Schmeisser of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kristen, Ross, Kate and Rebekah Schmeisser and Taylor Aldridge; great granddaughter, Aida Kellams; three sisters Ina (Michael) Sheridan, Suellen (Timothy) Selb and JoAnn (Larry) Smith, all of Ironton, Ohio; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Schmeisser in 2013.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father John Hall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by a contingent of the US Army, American Legion and VFW. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
