Robert Bob Dishman

March 28, 1954 — December 4, 2020

“Christ is all” was Bob’s mantra. He lived that mantra and believed it with all his being.

Kind hearted, humble, genuine, loyal, strong and one with unwavering love are some words that define Bob Dishman. Bob passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis on Friday, December 4, 2020. He was born March 28, 1954 in Henry County to Felix and Lovie (Madison) Dishman. His large, tight-knit circle of nine siblings has been broken, and he will be forever loved by his family and friends.

At the early age of seven, Bob’s dad, Felix, gave him a pig. He raised that pig, sold it and with the proceeds bought a couple calves. With his entrepreneurial mindset, he continued to raise and sell farm animals until he had his own little livestock farm as a young teen. Proud of his family’s heritage, he continued his dad’s passion, and dealt with livestock of all kinds and worked as a butcher for all his years. He owned and operated Dishman Quality Meats in Winchester for over 20 years, and owned B&C Farms in New Castle. He was a 1973 graduate of Blue River Valley High School, where he was involved in 4-H and FFA.

He was a Sunday School teacher for many years, and shared the gospel of his Lord with anyone he met. He attended many Bible conferences and truly loved listening to Christ exalting messages, sharing them with friends and family. Frugal, a great money manager, and an expert trader, he was always willing to help the underdog or underprivileged, even when it was to his disadvantage. He saw potential in everyone.

He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren who knew him as Pops. He loved taking them to church on Sundays, attending their ballgames, and taking them to every fair within driving distance. He mentored many youth throughout his lifetime and was a caring and loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews, taking interest in what they were doing and encouraging them.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and soulmate, Cindy Dishman of New Castle; his daughter and light of his life, Dani (Anthony) Turner of New Castle; stepsons, Jason Hendricks of Auburn, Shawn (Shannon) Hendricks of New Castle; grandchildren, Alijah Turner, Akiyah Turner, Mersadeez and Saphyra Hendricks, Katelynn and Spencer Hendricks, Isabel and Elizabeth Rodgers; Levi and Denver Cooley; children he helped raise, Priscilla (Danny) Jackson and Louie Wagner, along over 50 other children that he fostered; siblings, Linda Loveless of New Castle, Brenda (Delbert) Polston of Mt. Summit, David (Melanie) Dishman of Mooresville, Steve (Janet) Dishman of Crossville, TN, Gale (Clarence) Poor of New Castle, Larry (Sharon) Dishman of Hurley, MS; Joy Dishman (Sparky) Harris of New Castle, and Wanda Jones of New Castle; special friends, Glenn and Terrance Whitehead and their families of Springport; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Lovie (Madison) Dishman; an infant brother, James Edward Dishman,a nephew Chris Dishman, a niece, Piper Phillips and two brothers in law, Steve Jones and Leonidas Loveless.
