Ruth J. King was born October 11, 1919 in Hillsdale, Indiana. She graduated from Montezuma High School where she was a member of the winning basketball team.
She was a resident of Mount Summit from 1950 to 1973 before moving to New Castle. She and her husband, Kermit, owned and operated New Castle Motor Sales for 25 years. She was a great cook and famous for the many quilts she made. She enjoyed going to the New Castle Senior Center.
She was a member of the Mount Summit Women’s Club, Memorial Drive Home Economics Club, Mothers and Friends of Veterans, McGidden Club, and various card groups. She volunteered with RSVP. She helped organize the Henry County Saddle Club.
She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. William (Sherry) McClure of New Castle, Mrs. Michael (Susan) Douglass of Muncie, and Mrs. Larry (Sally) Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren: Jane Brown, Peggie McClure, Mary Ingerman, David McClure, Amy Douglass Crabb, Joel Douglass, Aron Melvick, Stacey Melvick, and Lauren Miller; nineteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit, three sisters: Mary Catherine, Mable, Virginia and brother John.
Services will be announced later. Burial will be in the Mount Summit Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle Senior Center, 108 S. Main St, New Castle, IN 47362.
