Sammy Vaughn

March 31, 1949 — February 5, 2019

Sammy Vaughn, 69, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at his home. He was born March 31, 1949 in Old Hickory, TN to the late William and Allie (Hicks) Vaughn.

He was a 1968 graduate of Blue River Valley High School and served 2 years in the US Marine Corp. Sammy was a bus driver for New Castle School Corporation for 17 years and retired from Chrysler Corp. in 2000 following 32 years of service. He was an avid weight lifter and a black belt in karate. Sammy was generous to a fault and had a heart of gold. He was a jokester and liked to make people smile, never meeting a stranger. Sammy was a good Christian man and a member of the Wesleyan Church. His daily routine was to read and memorize 97 scriptures. Loving to travel, Sammy had visited 45 of the 50 United States. Sammy was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry (Hollars) Vaughn of New Castle; son, Todd (Michelle) Vaughn of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Zachery Vaughn and Ross Vaughn both of Pendleton, Seth Vaughn of Wisconsin; siblings, Joyce Worthing of Colorado; Virginia (Nick) Thompson of Connersville, Bill Vaughn of Connersville and Mark (Cindy) Vaughn of New Castle; brother and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Jerry) Howard of New Castle and Jerry (Joy) Hollars of Markleville, Susan (Jim) Keever of New Castle, Jannie Ketring of Cambridge City and Larry (Chris) Hollars of Manilla; several nieces, nephews and special friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Cory Ryan Vaughn; in-laws, William and Elva Hollars; sister-in-law, Beverly Pummill and brother-in-law, Phil Ketring.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 2 – 6 p.m. Sunday, February 10th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Christian Love Center, 418 S.18th St., New Castle, IN 47362.
