Screnda Elizabeth Sampley, 98, of New Castle passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. She was born March 30, 1919 in Tobinsport, IN to the late Edward Allen and Dollie Clementine (Morgan) McLain.
She attended school in Tobinsport and Cannelton, IN then moved to New Castle in 1951. Screnda retired from Modernfold after over 30 years of service. She was a member of Mothers and Friends of Veterans, AARP and Grand Avenue Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, and she loved her church family.
She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Riley of Florida and Indiana; granddaughter, Stacey (Jim Dobbs) Cleveland of New Palestine; grandson, Scott (Donna) Riley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two great-grandchildren, Kellie Cleveland of New Palestine and Jason (Courtney) Cleveland of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four great-great grandchildren, Connor, Kendall, Brayden and Christian.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William David Sampley in 1981, two sons; William David Sampley Jr. and Oscar Allen Sampley, three sisters, Blanche McLain, Maggie Lee Robinson, Themorah Gunn, two brothers, Otis McLain and Charles McLain.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Tony Piper officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, June 25.
