Sharon Sue Atkins
March 30, 1947 — August 20, 2019
Sharon Sue (McCorkle) Atkins, age 72, went to be with our Lord and Master on Tuesday August 20, 2019 at her home. Born March 30, 1947 to the late Lowell (Bull) McCorkle and Catherine Waln McCorkle in New Castle.
She was proud to tell people that she was the last girl Dr. Bitler delivered at the old New Castle Clinic. She was a member of Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School Class of 1966. Sharon worked for the City Clerk-Treasurer Office, New Castle Street Department and retired in 2003 from Chrysler Corporation. She was also an Aide for 7 years at Greenstreet Elementary School where she received the Joseph Greenstreet Award for Outstanding dedication and service.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Michael J. Atkins, Sr. whom she married March 2, 1963; a daughter Tracy (Todd) Klotz; son, Michael J. (Mary Lou) Atkins, Jr.; daughter, Gretchen (Andrew) Cobb; grandchildren, Todd “T.K.” Klotz II, Eric Klotz and Ethan (Libby) Klotz, Katelyn Atkins (fiancé, Ross Hummel), Donald Atkins, Thomas, Dennis and Samuel Cobb.
Also survived by a sister, Paulette (Wayne) DeHart; sister-in-law Jean Johnson and brother-in-law, James (Starlynn) Atkins, Sr.; many nieces and nephews. Also, her beloved Yorkie, Sir Elmo.
A memorial service will be held at Green Hills Memory Garden at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2019 with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Services in New Castle. The family request that any gifts be made to the American Lung Association.
