Sharon Elaine Farley

December 11, 1940 — March 9, 2021

Sharon Elaine Farley, 80, of New Castle, Indiana passed away on Tuesday evening, March 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by those she loved most. She was born on December 11, 1940 in Williams, IN to the late Forest Roberts and Dorothy (Reuter) Higham.

Elaine was a lifelong resident of New Castle, graduating from New Castle High School in 1958 as a member of the National Honor Society. She started her career working several years as an aide at Wilbur Wright School and twenty years as a travel agent and the office manager at New Castle Travel. Elaine was a very active member of the St. James Episcopal Church since 1996, where she served on the Vestry, as Junior Warden, a volunteer for Carousel program, and a member of the choir. St. James and her church family held a very special place in her heart. She was truly a reflection of God’s love in every way. She lived life beautifully and always acted in love, bringing happiness to all those who crossed her path. With a green thumb, Elaine found great joy spending time in the garden and with her flowers. She not only made her home a center of love for her family, but also for Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds. She also enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and volunteering at the Henry County 4-H Association. Above all, what she loved most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elaine also had a great fondness for dogs and them for her. She was a philanthropist at heart, contributing to many organizations in which she believed in full heartedly to include: National Audobon Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warrior’s Project, EDF Monarch Butterfly Habitat Exchange, and more. In addition, she was a member of the Daughters of the King, Elks 484, Moose 147, and Eagles 933.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Duane B. Farley, children, April (Steve) Denney of Huntsville, AL, Autumn (Bob) Vannatta of Lewisville, and Jim (Dianna Marshall) Farley of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Christopher (Nicky Givens) Bland, Kimberley (Madelyn Chesser) Denney, Dr. Katie (Chris) Denney-Windle, Abigail (Dylan Rains) Vannatta, Amy Vannatta, Teandra (Alex) Marshall-Reyes and Tyson (Brooke Maurer) Marshall; great-grandchildren, Bella, Scarlet, Addison, Leo and Amelia; siblings, Sami McBride and Betty Lotich.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Lowell Roberts and Doris Wilking.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Helen, Avis, Bonnie, Compassus Hospice, and granddaughters Amy and Kimberley for their tender care of Elaine.
