Shirley Noreen Shafer

Shirley Noreen Shafer, 83, of New Castle passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 at her residence. She was born May 23, 1938 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late George and Helen (Miller) Hopkins.
She was a longtime secretary of attendance and secretary to the guidance counselors at the New Castle Middle School. She was loved by everyone that knew her and she returned that love. Shirley was very supportive of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities and involvements.
Survivors include four children, Debbie (John) Trent, Jeff (Cathy) Shafer, Lori (James) Thompson and Joy (Steve) Miller, all of New Castle; grandchildren, Jason Atkinson of New Castle, Danielle Trent (fiancé, David Losey) of Anderson, Michelle (Jeremy) Collins of Louisville, Kimberly (Dean Morris) Sparks of New Castle, Brandon Smith (significant other, Becky Madison) of New Castle, Halen (Tylie) Shafer of Kokomo, Shaylee Shafer (fiancé, Adam Clark) of Kokomo, Joshua (Crystal) Batt of New Castle, Jesse Thompson (significant other, Paige Protsman) of Spiceland, Travis Thompson of New Castle, Matthew Shafer of New Castle, Kirstyn Shafer (significant other, Mark Reece) of New Castle, Karlee Black of New Castle and Daniel Miller (significant other, Lindsey Blake) of New Castle; brother, Arthur Scott of Monrovia; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and Shirley’s beloved pet Bichon, Sissy.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Shafer; sons, Todd Shafer & Howard Scott Shafer; brothers, Ronnie Hopkins and Jim Hopkins.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Dennis Hilton officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County/New Castle Humane Society.
