Thomas Rea Ratcliff

June 2, 1949 — July 20, 2017

Thomas Rea Ratcliff, 68, of Dunreith passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his home after an extended illness, surrounded by his girls. He was born June 2, 1949 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Rea H. and Winifred L. (Pickering) Ratcliff.

Tom was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He was a 1967 graduate of Spiceland High School and retired from REMC in 2013 following 33 years of employment. He cared about and supported his community in many ways. He was a 27-year member, 1983 Past Master and served as Secretary from 1984-2004 of the Spiceland Masonic Lodge #699 F. & A.M, which merged with the New Castle Lodge No. 91 in 2004. He was a 24-year member of the Dunreith Town Board, and served as Vice President from 2002-2014. He was a 43-year member of the Dunreith Volunteer Fire Department and served as Secretary for 39 of those years. He served 11-years on the Henry County Board of Zoning Appeals. He also served on the New Castle Girls Youth Softball League (NCGYSL) Board. He was an Assistant Coach for the NCGYSL Tigers from 2009-2013 and was fondly known as “Tiger Tom”.

Tom enjoyed playing golf, cooking, rock ‘n’ roll music, and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed auto racing, loved coaching children, and his #1 hobby was spending time with his granddaughter Lauren playing sports, doing science experiments and wood-working projects.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 48 years, Valorie Kay Ratcliff; daughter, Julia Ann Ratcliff (Scott) Bouslog of Spiceland; granddaughter, Lauren MacKenzie Bouslog of Spiceland; brother, Richard P. (Linda) Ratcliff of Spiceland; mother-in-law, Lorene Larrimore of New Castle, IN; sisters- in-law, Wanda (Wiley) Shrum of Jasper, TN; Alice Faye (Doug) Reece of Spiceland, Norma (David) Lee of New Castle; nieces, Stephanie (Scott) Conquest; Angie Larrimore; Tina (Michael) Abrams; nephews, Mark Reece, Brian Thomas, Sean (Tracy) Smith, and Chad Lee; great nieces Ashlee (Kirkland) Hill, Whitney Thomas, Alex Larrimore, Maddy Abrams; great nephews, Darian Smith, Christian Smith, Holden Thomas, Mason Abrams, Jesse Conquest, Keenan Reece, Korban Reece, Kyran Reece, and Kastan Reece; and great-great nephew Peyton Hill as well as other extended family and friends, including his REMC family, softball friends, and his golf buddies.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with David Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at the Hinsey-Brown with Masonic rites service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Dunreith Volunteer Fire Department, 213 Washington, Dunreith, IN 47337 or Tri High School Lady Titan Softball Program, 6972 S.
