Virgil L. Kelley, Sr., 87, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home. He was born July 16, 1931 in Monticello, KY.
Virgil was a self employed plumber and electrician and owned Kelley’s Plumbing and Electric. He also delivered papers for the Courier-Times. Virgil was formerly employed at Ingersoll Steel and was a pinsetter for a bowling alley in New Castle. He enjoyed yard work, mowing, fishing, NASCAR races, attending races at Mt. Lawn Speedway and had sponsored a bowling team. Virgil especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and meeting friends for breakfast at Jacks Donuts.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Kelley Brewster and Teresa Kelley Hall; a son, Virgil Kelley, Jr. all of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Brandie (Kenny) Burke, Jordan Brewster, Kendall Brewster, Wendy (Chad) Cook, Randi Hyden, Carl Hyden and Virgil Kelley III; several great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Villa (Boone) Williams of New Castle, brother, Junior Adkins of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Opal Adkins, wife, Donna (Wolfe) Kelley, an uncle who raised him, Millard Dane, great-grandson, Jarred Burke and brother, Gene Adkins.
Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rick Davis. Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10th.
