Ada M. Chriswell

Ada M. Chriswell, 93, of New Castle, passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at The Willows of New Castle following a brief illness. She was born April 23, 1933, in New Castle to the late Theodore and Sarah E. (Brown) Carender.

A graduate of New Castle High School, Ada worked at Carson Chemicals, Singer Sewing Store, and the Employment Office, all in New Castle. However, she was a homemaker most of her life, and enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, belonging to a Euchre Club for several years.

She and her late husband, Fred, belonged to the Good Sam Camping Club for many years, and enjoyed traveling the entire U.S. in their motor home. She enjoyed many trips to Texas and Florida. She attended Foursquare Gospel Church and Crossroads Church in New Castle.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her three children, Steve R. (Susanne) Chriswell of Greenwood, Kathy J. (Rob) Bundy of New Castle, and Ted L. (Lisa) Chriswell of New Castle; grandchildren, Corey (Amanda) Chriswell of Bargersville, Lance (Katie) Bundy of Westfield, Kirby (Meg) Bundy of Muncie, Ashley (Michael) Pollitt of New Castle, and Mandy Bennett (Jason Cornelius) of New Castle; great grandchildren, Callan and Cayden Chriswell, both of Bargersville, Emma and Isaac Bundy of Westfield, Copeland, Veda, and Drake Bundy of Muncie, Jaxon and Maci Spurling, Kamryn Pollitt, Braylon, Brielle, and Braxton Bennett, all of New Castle, Andrew, Taylor, Kenley and Bryant Cornelius, all of New Caste; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend of Ada’s, Lowell Byrd of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ray Chriswell in 2011; a grandson in infancy, Zachary Ryan Bundy; a brother, Boyd Carender; two sisters, Rebecca Thrasher and Dixie Bennett.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Ricky Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.st.jude.org.
