Ale “Junior” Boyatt, 89, of rural Mooreland and formerly of Springport passed away Monday, January 12, 2026 at IU Health Ball Hospital. He was born February 21, 1936 in Shoopman, Kentucky to the late Jimmie and Lee Etta (Phillips) Boyatt.
Junior, affectionately known as Pappy by those who loved him, grew up in the close-knit community of McCreary County, Kentucky, where he was raised alongside his ten siblings. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he consistently put their needs above his own, offering unwavering support and love. An avid outdoorsman, Junior found great joy in fishing and hunting, especially with his grand kids and family. He took pride in passing down his skills and knowledge, eagerly teaching others the traditions he held dear. Throughout his life, Junior exemplified hard work and dedication, holding various jobs including positions at Durham Manufacturing and General Motors, before retiring in 1999, while also taking on side work as a roofer. Guided by the Golden Rule—“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”—Junior lived a life rooted in kindness, integrity, and service to others.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Ruth Ann (Hill) Boyatt; daughters, Carolyn Sue (Tim) Clapp and Donna (Tim) Conley; grandchildren, Todd (Mindi) Clapp, Matt Clapp (Pap’s sidekick), Susann (Matt) Demmary, Casie (Rob) Roland and Clynnt (Alexandra) Conley; great grandchildren, Mason and Paxton Demmary, Rainie Roland and a new great granddaughter due in March; and several nieces and nephews.
