Audrey Ernestine Hunt

Audrey Ernestine (Lee) Hunt, 88, of rural New Castle, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Zula, KY, a daughter of the late Walter and Dottie (Massengale) Lee.

Classy, caring, gentle and intelligent are words that describe Ernestine. She loved her family, all of them, immediate and distant. Ernestine was a loving wife and wonderful mother. On April 6, 1953, she married the love of her life, Clarence Hunt; They began their family together of five children and were married 58 years. Most importantly, Ernestine loved the Lord; she loved to sing solos at church and was known to have the most beautiful soprano voice. She was a longtime member of the Mooreland Friends Meeting and was known for her various hats; she loved to wear hats to church. An avid reader in general, she, of course, loved to read the Bible and her favorite readings were from Isaiah and those wrote by the Apostle Paul.

As mentioned above, Ernestine was an avid reader and had a love for poetry, both reading and writing. She was a very intelligent and creative lady who was blessed with the most amazing memory. She was an excellent seamstress as she made clothing for her family over the years. Ernestine loved to quilt and being very skilled, they were beautiful when finished.

Ernestine worked as an LPN at the Henry County Hospital prior to retiring after 20 years and also worked at various nursing homes over the years caring for others.

Left to cherish her memory include her children, Kathleen (Greg) Miller of New Castle, Rachel (Terry) Gant of Indianapolis, Beverley Williams of New Castle, Jonathan (Marilyn) Hunt of New Castle and Melissa (Jason Craig) Hollings of New Castle; grandchildren, Christopher Miller, McKinzie Edstene, Cassidie Craig, Charlotte Ewing, Josiah Ewing, Isaac Gant, Chelsea Jarvis, Sadie Claar, Steven Adams, and Crystal Adams; great grandchildren, Ruby New, Charly Jarvis , Addy Jarvis, Devin Jarvis, Kylie Phelfrey, Marcus Malson, Lily New, Avery Claar Audrey Maeve Edstene and Beck Edstene; siblings, Lovealene Hicks, Timothy Lee , Loretta Raines and Rachael McClurg; great great grandchildren, Rena Gard and Felicity Harris; also several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hunt in 2012; great grandson, Jameson Claar; siblings, Paul Lee, Patrick Lee, Berniece Messer and Bonnie Ray Lee.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Thursday.
