Barbara A. Carnes-Severance

Barbara A. Carnes-Severance, 82, gained her wings Thursday, September 24, 2026 after more than a year-long battle with cancer. She was born September 6, 1944 in New Castle to Carlile “Bud” and Lois “Annie” Carnes.

Barbara was a 1962 graduate of Union High School. She retired after 35 years from Henry County Memorial Hospital. Barbara spent her early years in Blountsville, Muncie and Mooreland. She has attended Smyrna Baptist Church for several years.

Barbara loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed snowmobiling and spending her summers at the lake house in Dale Hollow Lake. She always made the holidays special for her family, especially for her grandchildren. Barbara had a devoted love of flowers and also loved to bake cakes and cookies for her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Severance; daughters, Carol Rains (John), Peggy Prosser, Ruth Gard and Penny Masters (Dan), along with her son Dean Severance (Cindi); grandchildren, Craig Morgan (Dixie), Justin Morgan (Ashley), Hayley Rains, Chris Rains, Ameila Brock (Robert), Heather Huddleston (Wes), Holli Robinson (James), Jason Masters (Sammie) and Christopher Masters (Adamaris); great-grandchildren, Paige Morgan, Shelby Morgan, Devani Morgan, Hannah Morgan, Camdyn Brock, Jonathan Brock, Alexis Brock, Emre Robinson and Ella Robinson; great great-grandson Jaiden Morgan; brother, Stephen Carnes (Marcia); several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by grandson, Richard Emmons and many other family members.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.  Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be on Monday, September 28, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Reid Health, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
