Barbara Sue South

Barbara Sue South, affectionally known as "Nana", 82, of New Castle went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday November 16, 2023, at Reid Hospital in Richmond after numerous battles with cancer. She was born on January 10, 1941, in New Castle to the late Herbert and Mary (Dicken) Witham.
She was a 1959 graduate of Lewisville High School where she was a Cheerleader. Sue cherished her family, especially her grand and great grandbabies. She enjoyed family cookouts at her daughters’ houses, watching college basketball and the Colts. Sue loved word searches and watching gameshows on TV. Faith was important to Sue, she was a member of Charity Baptist Church and attended church with her girls also, where she loved to hear her grandchildren sing. In 2001 Sue retired from Ford in Connersville after 17 years of service.
Sue is survived by her daughters, Susan (Joe) Swift, Lisa (Greg) Buchanan and Kelli (Scott Wake) Mowbray; grandchildren, Ashley (Lucas) Morris, Molly (Mitchell) Bates and Brett (Sarah) Buchanan; great grandchildren, Finn Morris, Hody Morris, Emma Sue Morris and Will Bates; siblings, Rue (Myron) Shook, Wanda Hinshaw, Opie Effinger, Billy (Wanda) Witham, Gary (Vickie) Witham, Diann Hitchcock, Sheila Oliver and Gail (Keith Thompson) Coleman; sister-in-law, Maxine South; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Farley South; siblings, Bob Witham and Helen Hensley.
Services will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
