Betty Lou Bruton, 94, of New Castle, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at I.U. Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She was born February 10, 1932 in Alpha, KY; a daughter of the late Everett and Bessie May (Massengale) Perdew. Betty was preceded in death by siblings, Birdie Christine, Gail, Leland “Weed”, Billy, Frank, Haskell “Hack”, and Rex Perdue. She married Dempsey Bruton on July 2, 1955, sharing over 71 years of marriage.
Betty was a homemaker, and spent her life caring for her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Castle, where she enjoyed assisting with funeral dinners. She enjoyed jogging, line dancing, traveling to Las Vegas and the beach, watching her hummingbirds, and making people laugh with her practical jokes. More than anything, she loved spending time with her granddaughters. She will always be remembered for caring for family, friends, and anyone in need. She never met a stranger.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 71 years, Dempsey Bruton of New Castle; four daughters, Vikki Bruton of Nashville, TN, Patty (Ron) Kirby of New Castle, Sheila Katz of Fishers, and Christie (Adam) Nelson of Indianapolis; four granddaughters, Andrea Kirby Turner (Corey), Hannah Nelson, Emily Katz and Ava Nelson.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Jerry Ingalls and Ken Durham officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a memorial contribution to the First Baptist Church Courtesy Meals in care of the church.
