New Castle

Betty Sue Tuggle, 79, of New Castle, passed away on February 17, 2026. She was born on January 11, 1947, in Somerset, KY, to the late Ralph Jones and Pauline (Debord) Cox.

Betty graduated from Somerset High School in 1965 before embarking on a lifelong journey devoted to caring for others. On the last day in the year 1965, she married Darrell Tuggle, starting a life together that would be built on love, compassion, and faith. She began her career as a candy striper while still in high school, a role that would lay the foundation for her dedicated service in healthcare. Over the years, Betty poured her heart into her work, serving many patients in both the emergency room at Henry County Hospital and later at Ball Hospital, where she spent the final two decades of her career. Her compassionate spirit resonated through the hallways of each facility as she touched the lives of countless individuals.

Betty's personality was defined by her caring and loving nature. She truly lived life with a servants heart. Betty loved Christmas time and spending time with her friends and family. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant spirit—Betty found joy in crocheting and had a passionate love for all animals. Music played an integral role in her life, as she played the piano for many years, lending her talent to the churches she and her family attended. Her love for gospel music brought her immense joy.

Betty’s love for her family was the heart of her existence. She relished the time spent with her children and grandchildren, sharing laughter and the sweetness of homemade baked goods. Family gatherings in Gatlinburg and Kentucky were treasured moments, each filled with love and connection.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of over 60 years, Darrell Tuggle; daughters, DeAdra Baldwin and Jennifer (Jim) Thornburgh; grandchildren, Karissa (Ben) Christian, Caleb Thornburgh, Eli Thornburgh, and Seth Thornburgh; great grandson, Aaron Christian; brother, Jim (June) Jones; sister in law, Reda (Murrell) Denney; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved cat, Taylor.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Tuggle; and her brother, John Ray Jones.
