Beverly “Sue” Seward, 85, a resident of New Castle passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at The Waters of New Castle with her loving daughter at her side. She was born July 10, 1941 in New Castle to the late Curtis and Stella Fern (Hardin) Stanley.
A 1959 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, Sue retired from Agape Learning Center after 18 years of service where she had served as head cook. She was formerly employed at Gen Corp in Shelbyville for several years.
Sue was a devoted member of Foursquare Gospel Church for 52 years, where her faith and love for children were an important part of her life. Affectionately known as “Miss Sue”, she was actively involved in the children’s ministry, having taught Sunday school for many years and working with the DIVE program at Eastwood Elementary School and at her church. She dedicated her time to helping children learn, grow and build a foundation of faith.
Sue enjoyed camping with her family when the children were younger, traveling in an old church bus that her husband converted into a camper. Above all, spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do. Sue also enjoyed feeding the birds and watching them outside her living room window.
One of Sue’s greatest joys was leading her small group at church; “Women of Worth”. Years before the group was ever created, the Lord had given her the name, making it a special part of her faith in life.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children: Elizabeth “Liz” Seward, Wendy Coffey (Roger Sexton), Tabby Cotner, Shane Seward, Joe (Jessica) Devine and James Seward, all of New Castle and her beloved grandson, Devan (Makayla) Seward, whom she lovingly raised. Sue is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Seward; her daughter, Carrie Manthei; her sister, Gwendolyn Whitesell and her brothers, James Martin and Paul Martin. She was also preceded in death by a special niece, Sharon Daffron and her special nephew, David Whitesell.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Waters of New Castle for the compassionate care you provided for our Mom. A special thank you to Fran, Lydia, Jessica, Alexa, Becca, Nikki, Sarah R. and all the nurses who cared for her with such kindness and compassion. Your love, support and dedication meant so much to our family during this difficult time. We are forever grateful for each and everyone of you.
Also, a special thank you goes out to Henry County Health Hospice nurse Ashley Harrison for the love, kindness and compassion you showed Mom. Your gentle care and support meant so much to our family during such a difficult time. We are truly grateful for the comfort you brought Mom and the compassion you showed all of us. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
