Billy “Bill” Gene Davis, age 92, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021 at Henry Community Health. He was born February 20th, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Lester & Mattie (Hay) Davis.
Bill was raised in Keno, Kentucky on Cumberland Lake where he helped his father haul coal as a young boy. He attended school in Keno, Ky. Bill met and married the love of his life, Jewel (Adkisson) Davis on May 24th, 1949. They moved to New Castle where he worked for Chrysler Corporation 30 years. During layoffs from Chrysler, he was employed with the city & state highway.
Bill was an avid antique collector of many different things including art work, jewelry and furniture. He was a member of UAW local 371. Bill loved the Lord and being a servant, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church bus driver and youth group leader. He and his wife, Jewel, sang and recorded music with the Immanuel Airs Quartet which traveled around central Indiana singing at different churches. He loved gospel and bluegrass music.
A proud member of Open Arms Church where his two sons, Paul Davis and Rick Davis and as well as his grandson, Brock Davis, are all three pastors. He also attended Grand Ave. Baptist Church for many years. Bill was known as “Dad Davis” by many children and adults in our community. He never met a stranger and loved telling stories from times past. Bill loved reading his Bible and sharing the gospel; his heart’s desire was to see all of his family have a relationship with Jesus.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife: Jewel Davis; children: Lonnie (Gayle) Davis, Debbi Alcorn, Sharon (David) Branham, Paul (Vickie) Davis, Gary Davis, Rick (Angie) Davis, Lisa (Jeff) Miller, David (Cindy) Davis and Wendy (Ric) Barr; 24 Grandkids; 31 Great-Grand kids and 8 Great Great-grandkids; sisters: Genalea Nunn, Shirley Stout and Faye (Goodin) Stout; brother: Charles (Lorena) Davis and sisters-in-law: Beulah Copeland, Carolyn Davis and Jo Adkisson
He is preceded in death by his parents: Lester & Mattie Davis; daughters: Kathy Dicken & Patti Catron–Scholl; daughter-in-law: Kathy Bise Davis; sons-in-law: Billy Catron, Gary Dicken, and Ted Alcorn; great-grandson: Xavier Dudley; sister: Glenna Adkisson; brothers: Russell Davis and Homer Davis; brothers-in-law: Paul Adkisson, Lester Adkisson, Jay Nunn, Floyd Stout and Ed Tallent; sisters-in-law: JoAnn Davis, Gladys Tallent, & Audrey Bell.
Services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, November 8, 2021 at Open Arms Church in New Castle with Pastors Brock Davis, Paul Davis and Rick Davis officiating. Private graveside services will be held at South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M Monday, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Open Arms Church, Alzheimer’s Research or Riley Children’s Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
