Bretella Mae Oney

Bretella Mae Oney, also affectionately known as “Teddy” or “Nan” passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. She was born June 16, 1937 in Hayes Branch, Rowan County, Kentucky to Orville and Agnes (Frazier) Blevins.

A homemaker, she had attended the Knightstown Church of God as well as the Lewisville Church of God. In her younger years, she had a large garden and enjoyed canning. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her family, whom she loved dearly; they were her world. Bretella was a simple woman who enjoyed the simple things in life.

Survivors include two daughters: Deborah Schmidt and Lori (Tom) Wannemacher, both of New Castle; grandson: Aaron (Danielle) Schmidt; great-grandchildren: Tea, Everett and Malchus; step great grandchildren: Raeann and Ryder; sister: Jewel Oney; half-sister: Ellen Blevins; half-brother: Ronnie (Kathy) Blevins; half-sisters-in-law: Betty Jo Blevins, Amber Blevins and Paulette Blevins; many nieces and nephews.

Bretella was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Agnes Blevins; step-mother: Elsie Blevins; her husband: Everett Oney, Jr; daughter: Kathy Oney; brothers: Bill (Mag) Blevins, David (Leatha) Blevins and Orville Blevins, Jr.; half-brothers: Earl Blevins, Johnny Blevins and Phil Blevins; brothers-in-law: Ervin Oney, Carl (Jean) Oney, Edmund (Thelma) Oney; sisters-in-law: Hildreth (Virgil) Hoover, Margaret Turner, Edna (Roy) Ferguson, Lillian (Lawrence) Blevins and Faye (Romy) McGraw; several nieces and nephews and special friend: Lonnie Lewis.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at the funeral home.
