Byron “Barney” C. Ritchie, 70, of Springport passed away on Friday March 17, 2023 following an extended illness. He was born on September 27, 1952 in Muncie Indiana to the late Paul and Martha (Carter) Ritchie.
Barney was a 1970 graduate of Blue River Valley High School. He owned Ritchie’s Plumbing for more than 30 years and retired in 2015. After retirement Barney drove a bus for Blue River and was given the route so he could pick up his grandchildren every day. He was a member of Oakville Brethren Church, Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge #348 and Central Indiana Old Car Club. Barney loved collecting and building model trains, watching NASCAR, races at Eldora Speedway and spending time with his wife Janice traveling around in their Jeep.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice; daughter Sarah (Greg Symoens) Ritchie; grandchildren, Layla and Cameron Symoens; sister Nancy Richey, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Barney is preceded in death by his sister, Paula Ritchie.
Services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday March 23, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor John Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge #348 just prior to the service.
