Carolyn Ann Utt

August 4, 1945 — November 24, 2025

New Castle

Carolyn Ann Utt, 80, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, at The Willows in New Castle. She was born on August 4, 1945, to the late James and Arzie (Jones) Ford.

Carolyn’s journey began in New Castle, Indiana, where she graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School in 1964. Carolyn started her career in a secretarial position at Westinghouse in Muncie and later worked in the same role in other various industries.

In a tender twist of fate, Carolyn met the love of her life, Gerry, at one of the famous Broad Street cruise-ins. Their encounter blossomed into a beautiful romance, culminating in their marriage in 1966. For 59 years, the couple nurtured their bond, creating an unbreakable partnership. Carolyn and her husband enjoyed special date nights every Friday, a ritual that stood for over 30 years. Their love story was a testimony to partnership, loyalty, and joy. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home that first started in the little house where Carolyn grew up on 22nd Street. They later purchased a farm near Cadiz, IN, and it was there that they raised four wonderful children, cultivating not just a family, but a legacy of love and support.

A true embodiment of love, Carolyn took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. She was notably supportive and actively engaged in her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She nurtured their dreams and instilled in them the same values of hard work and dedication that defined her life. Carolyn loved shopping of any kind but especially enjoyed thrifting, never knowing what she may come across. She cherished quiet evenings crocheting while immersed in a Christmas novel or one of the romance stories she loved to read. Carolyn loved the Christmas season, and the Hallmark Channel would often be playing in her home, narrating heartwarming stories that she adored during the holiday season.

Her love extended beyond her immediate family. Carolyn often bonded with her sisters-in-law, celebrating birthdays and sharing laughter, while also creating unforgettable moments with her grandchildren during their scenic drives, where she would regale them with tales of the area's rich history. Carolyn also had a deep affection for the ocean, finding peace by its shores and always wanting to visit again.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 59 years, Gerlad “Gerry” Utt; children, Kelly (Matt) Moore and Courtney (Dennis) DeYoung; grandchildren, Holly (Nate) Hawkins, Raven (Micheal) Robinson, Ryme Utt, and Owen (Kate) Yoakum; great grandchild, Harleen Robinson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her children, Scott Utt and Tracy Utt; brother, Glen Ford; and special fur baby, Sophie Utt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, with Mark Herbkersman officiating.
