Cassie Harris

Cassie M. Harris, age 93, of New Castle, a longtime local hairdresser, passed away Monday, January 5, 2009 at Henry County Hospital. She was born December 6, 1915 in Cleveland County, Oklahoma to the late Radford and Ellen (Hoskins) Cobb.
She was a member of the Sigma Delta Tau Sorority, Altrusa, the Women’s Club and a past member of the Westwood Country Club. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, painting and gardening. She was a member of the First Christian Church in New Castle.
Survivors include four children: Lt. General Bruce R. (wife: Claudia) Harris of Augusta, GA, Brenda (husband: Ed) Gouckenour of Huntington, IN, Nan R. (husband: Chet) Bussert of Naples, FL, and Jill (husband: Mike) Morris of New Castle; ten grandchildren: Amber Merrill Norrod, Curt Bell and Troy Bell all of New Castle, Mike Haynes, Mark Haynes, Meleah Haynes, Bruce Harris, Jr., Mary Kay Brooks, Tim Harris and Brad Harris; twenty one great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Orville “Curly†Harris; two brothers, Dale and Chester Cobb, and two sisters: Nannie Smith and Mary Hubbert, and great grandson: Jordan R. Harris.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Paul Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the New Castle Henry County First Aid Unit with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.hinsey-brown.com .
