Cecil Dewayne "HOG" Estell, 86, of Greensboro rode off into the sunset Friday, November 17, 2023. He was born June 13, 1937 to the late Cecil and Mary Estell in Punkintown.
He spent most of life around the Spiceland area. During his full life, Dewayne never met a stranger and loved to socialize. Hog was a well known fixture at the Knightstown Sale Barn. In his early days, Dewayne and his dad farmed and logged with his horses and milked cows by hand. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving between the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a member of the Knightstown American Legion. Later in life, he was a heavy equipment operator and help build I-70 through Henry County, worked as a carpenter/PR man for Peterman Electric, and bartended at various area bars including his favorite, Zipper's. Hog loved to garden and gave produce to friends, family and strangers.
Leaving those that will miss him dearly include his wife, Mindy (Griffith) Estell, daughter, Mandy (Elvis) Tompkins of Shirley, son, Bradley (April) Roberts of Greenfield, son, Dee Estell, and daughter, Mary Estell. "Pappy" will forever be cherished by his best friend and grandson, Jarrett Smith of Shirley, his pride and joy granddaughter, Allie Smith of Shirley, and his horsing' around buddy and granddaughter, Avery Roberts of Greenfield, mother in law, Kaye Griffith of Kennard, sister in law, Missy (Randy) McVay of Anderson, his horses, Jack and Butterfly, and his faithful companion, Harley. Hog also leaves many friends including Jeri & Scott Chew, and his caretaker and buddy Matt Young of Mooreland.
Preceding him in death are his parents, son, Wayne Alan, brother in law, Tom Griffith, father in law, Richard Griffith, grandparents in law, Ernie and Mary McCorkle and brother, Bob McCaslin.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Glen Cove Cemetery with military honors conducted by contingents from the US Army and Knightstown American Legion. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, November 20th at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the
