Charles Clayton Alfrey, Sr., 83, of New Castle passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at Golden Living Center in Muncie. He was born May 8, 1938 in Shiloh, Ohio, a son of the late Fred and Linda (Donathon) Alfrey.
He attended New Castle High School and received his GED in the U.S. Army while serving in France for thirty-four months, from October of 1955 until September of 1959. Charles retired from Borg Warner in 2000, following 22 years of service. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church. Charles loved to go camping in his RV and was an avid fan of NASCAR. He loved all of his pets throughout the years and always had a loyal companion by his side.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Carolyn (Tungate) Alfrey; children, Glenda (Bill) Moistner of New Castle, Charles (Staci) Alfrey, Jr. of Middletown, Scott (Christy) Alfrey of New Castle, Danny (Tammy) Acrey II of Mooreland, Julia (Glen Johns) Ross of Anderson; grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Beatty, Gordon (Kayla) Miller, Emily (Nick) Miller-King, Tanner Alfrey, Trent Alfrey, Kristin (Brian) Smith, Jessica Acrey (TJ), Jacklyn (Dylan) Huff, Kyle (Jada) Ross, Kailyn Ross, Stephanie (Chris) Howe, Katie (Anthony) Lloyd, and Randy (Bryanna) Murray; several great grandchildren; brother, Dean (Renate) Cox; sister, Evelyn James and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Alfrey in 1991; brothers, John Cox and Tom Hamilton.
Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Tim York officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
