Charles Eugene Edwards, age 93, lifelong resident of New Castle, Indiana passed away peacefully Friday February 2, 2024 surrounded by loving family. He was born November 29, 1930 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Earl and Hazel (Wilson) Edwards.
He was married to the love of his life, Nancy Edwards for 62 years prior to her passing in 2023. He attended New Castle Schools and later graduated from high school in Miami, Florida. He was a superintendent at Chrysler Corp. for 30 years and retired in November of 1987.
A veteran of the Korean War, Chuck proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Manchester ship.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in New Castle, IN. Chuck loved spending time with his family. He cherished his friends. In retirement he loved spending his winters in Florida. He was president of his neighborhood Audavin social community club and spent years planning activities and being involved in all aspects of growing the club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; a son, David Junior Atkins; a grandson, Dillon Atkins; 3 brothers, Ross, Max, and Rex Edwards and his mother and father-in-law, Lillie & Bryan Daffron.
Left to cherish his loving memory include 2 sons, Joe (Sue) Atkins of Dallas, TX, and Jeff Atkins of New Castle, IN and one daughter Shari (David) Spera of New Castle, IN; grandchildren, Kirk and Kyle Atkins of Dallas, TX, Brittni (Matt) Friend of Centerville, OH, Jordan (Taylor) Spera of New Palestine, IN, David Atkins of New Castle, IN, Josh (Megan) Atkins of Fort Wayne, IN, Ashley (Tim) Arnold of Union City, OH; 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, 2 sisters in law, Peg Edwards and Treva Edwards and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of Chuck at www.hinsey-brown.com .
