Charles “Charlie” R. Oldham, 72, of Markleville, passed away on July 21, 2026. He was born on April 1, 1954, in New Castle to the late Herbert and Edna (McDaniel) Oldham.
Charlie attended Knightstown High School until the 10th grade. He built a steady career working at the Dana automotive factory. He developed a wide range of interests throughout his years. He was a devoted fan of auto racing in all its forms. Nature called to him often, and he found joy in fishing and hunting—whether following deer tracks or searching the woods for mushrooms. Charlie also cultivated beautiful gardens, he and his wife well known for the high-quality produce they grew and sold to friends and neighbors.
Charlie enjoyed auctions and the thrill of a good bingo game. He loved gathering friends and family for cookouts, making the most of these occasions by experimenting with smoking different meats, always eager to bring people together around a plentiful table. He loved watching the news and game shows, storm chasing during wild weather, and listening to the scanner to keep informed about happenings in the community.
Charlie was known widely as a jokester—a man whose humor could light up a room and whose playful spirit endeared him to many. He knew no strangers, making friends wherever he went and offering a protective, loving presence to his family. Above all, Charlie cherished his family, holding them at the very center of his life.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Janet Oldham; his sons, Chris (Traci) Oldham and Doug Oldham; grandchildren, Brooke (Josh) Kinser, Kaylee (Dakota) Freeman, Khandi Oldham, Cory Oldham, Ashten Oldham, and Caden Oldham; and great grandchildren, Zoey Kinser, Samson Kinser, Kynlee Freeman, and Koa Freeman.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his 6 siblings.
