Charles Richard (Joe) Prokos, 94, of rural Muncie passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023. He was born October 7th, 1929, in Camden, New Jersey.
Joe worked in the bread industry many years working at Wonder, Continental, and Heiners. They lived on the Ohio River for several years and loved watching the barges float down the Ohio River. For several years he helped his wife take care of her elderly family. Joe loved it when neighbors came over to visit and stayed for hours to talk. Joe enjoyed attending church with his wife Sue. He loved sports on TV, and spent much time watching the Washinton Redskins play on Sundays. Joe and Sue traveled to many different places. They loved being together and spending the winter down south and out of the cold. They also spent some time in Mississippi living in a canal house. Joe devoted many years of service to the Salvation Army.
Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Eleanor Sue Prokos; son, Terry Prokos (Suzi); daughters-in-law, Vanessa Prokos and Theda McGovern; stepchildren, Rebecca Harris (Paul), Valerie Holter (Jerry), Elizabeth Waterfall (Emeric Rokay), Barbara Knupp (Steve) and Charles Cloud; they share grandchildren, Dillon Prokos, Shannon Berkypile, Trevor Prokos, Barry Harris, Jason Harris, Cami Harris, Gabriel Holter, Susie Holter, Clark Waterfall, Joshua Waterfall, Adam Knupp, and Aaron Knupp; great grandchildren, Brooklyn Prokos, Camden Berkypile, Alex Berkypile, Zoe Prokos, and Scarlett Prokos; sisters, Dorothy Longo, Maryann Mogull (Carey); several nieces and nephews.
He leaves good friends in Christ Henry Kelsey and Reggie Lee.
Joe is preceded in death by his son, Dana Prokos; grandson, Lucas Prokos; 3 brothers; one sister and his fishing buddy, Bill Arnot who is waiting to go fishing.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle officiated by Pastor Dan Kauffman. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunderland Cemetery in Delaware County.
