Charlie “O” Owens, 84, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023 after a 7 year battle with cancer. He was born June 23, 1938 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Frank and Edith (Guffey) Owens.
Charlie was an electrician with Chrysler Corporation before retiring in June of 2003. He owned Owens Electric for over 50 years, actively working until his passing. Charlie was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War. He loved to work and it was very hard on him to have to cut back the last few years. Charlie also enjoyed auto racing and everything about it. He would spend many summer nights at the racetracks watching and participating. Charlie loved sitting in the gazebo at Mt Lawn Speedway. One of his proudest moments was driving a stock car on his 78th birthday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He loved life and people, living everyday to its fullest regardless of how he felt. Charlie also enjoyed singing karaoke and loved spending time with family. He attended the Open Arms Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Owens of Richmond and Chuck (Tanya) Owens of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Katina (Trent) Dishman of Straughn; grandchildren, Josh (Patty) Owens, Jennifer (Danny) Capps, Chris (JoAnne) Owens, Morgan Brown, Joe Brown, Madison Owens, Jocelyn Gallegos, Kylie Dishman, Vade Dishman and Vance Dishman; brother, Don (Beulah) Owens of Burkesville, Kentucky; special friend, Patty Neal of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Owens; daughter, Lana Owens Brown; sister, Margaret Paul; brother, Howard Owens.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 20, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Paul and Ricky Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Sunday, March 19 and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
