Conwell Ward Jr.

Conwell Ward, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully at Addison Place on the afternoon of March 28, 2024. Born on May 5, 1929, he was the beloved son of the late Conwell Ward and Florence (Lamberson) Ward. Junior lived west of Hagerstown for over 61 years before relocating to Addison Place in 2021.

Junior attended schools in New Lisbon and New Castle and despite not completing high school, he developed skills in factory work, carpentry, and mechanics, which led to his wife, Faye, saying just before she passed away, “he could do anything.”

On June 9, 1948, he exchanged vows with Alma Faye Goforth, and together they raised their two children, Ron and Debbie.

Junior retired from Perfect Circle/Dana in 1989 after 30 years service.  He enjoyed being a part-time farmer, carpenter and handyman.   In the fall of 1962, he answered an altar call at First Baptist Church in Hagerstown and was baptized the following Sunday, along with wife Faye and children Ron and Debbie; by the late Reverend George Bell.  He was a member of New Castle Masonic Lodge #91.

Among his many hobbies were fishing; often sharing memorable trips with his family, brothers and friends to Canada, Minnesota, Kentucky and Florida. He also enjoyed reading, especially books about the Civil War. Junior was a skilled woodcarver and carpenter and was very creative with his woodcarvings. He delighted in making decorative furniture and carvings for his home and for family members. Junior had a love for animals especially horses and his dogs, Casey, Keesha and Tommy.

Junior is survived by his children, Ronald (Phyllis) Ward of De Soto, MO, Deborah (John) Clarke of Bentonville; grandchildren, Corey Ward of St. Louis, MO, Jeremy (Keri) Ward of Hillsboro, MO, Rebecca Ward of Knoxville, TN; great grandchildren, Emily Faye Ward, Madelyn Ward, Cody Conwell Ward and Victoria Ward all of Hillsboro, MO; brother, Fred Ward of Monticello, KY and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his wife of over 75 years, Alma Faye (Goforth) Ward; brothers, Raymond, Harold James, Charles, Richard and his sister, Edna.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Masonic Rites to commence at 6:45pm. Services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, April 5, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery - West Lawn Addition. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or the New Castle First Baptist Church in memory of Conwell Ward Jr. You may express condolences or share memories of Junior at www.hinsey-brown.com.
