Cynthia Diane "Cindy" Melton

Cynthia Diane “Cindy” Melton, 72 of New Castle passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at her home. She was born August 16, 1951 in Henry County to James and Vera (Ford) Swift.

Cindy was a foster parent and helped raise many children. She worked as a foster grandparent with the Salvation Army and Westwood School. Cindy also worked with the Amish along with her husband. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she was active in the Joy Club. Cindy enjoyed camping, traveling, deer, black bears, gardening and flowers, especially her rose bushes. She also loved hiking and collecting various items, but mostly of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer Lynn Boggs (Johnny McLaurin) of New Castle, John Matthew Melton of Rising Sun, Eddie Lee (Donna) Melton of Dublin, Autumn Lynn (James) Powell of New Castle and Kevin Wayne Melton of New Castle; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her mother, Vera Swift of New Castle; brothers, Jeff Swift and Timothy (Rachel) Swift of Richmond; sister, Carol (Bill) Hamby of New Castle; several nieces and nephew.

She is preceded in death, by her husband of 52 years, John Harvey Melton; father, James Swift, grandson, Austin Roach; siblings, Stephen, Jerry, Jeanett, Brian Swift, and Cathy Keesling; in-laws; Karen Swift, James Hershel Melton, Edna Mae (Cooksey) Melton, Oral “Red” Melton, Charles Melton, Reba Griffith, Anna Marie King, Edith Hipshire, Bonnie Ramey, Laura “Lori” Beckley and Christine Melton.

Service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Services in New Castle with Pastor Jimmy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from Noon till the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
