Daniel E. Kidd, 79, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 at I.U. Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born January 23, 1946, in New Castle, a son of the late Goldman and Marjorie (Sanders) Kidd.
Daniel graduated from Blue River Valley High School in 1965 and went to work at Dana Corp. in New Castle, until he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corp in 1966. He was shot in combat the next year, and in 1968 was medically discharged. Among many commendation medals, he was recipient of a Purple Heart. While in combat, he was a 0331 Machine Gunner, in the India #35 Company.
A proud supporter of U.S. Military veterans causes; he was a member of the American Legion Post #137 and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Daniel was also a member of the New Covenant Worship Center in New Castle.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Matt (Denise) Kidd of New Castle; four grandchildren, Skyler Kidd, Jaliya Harris, Kiera Harris, Aniah Williams; great grandchildren, Atticus Kidd and Gwenevierre Kidd; sisters, Nancy Couch, Cathy Troxell, Alyce Hinshaw, Melanie Sparks, Pam Lee, and Lisa Kidd; brother, Mike Kidd; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Farmer-Toppe; several aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Eric Haler officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW, and a contingent from the U.S. Marine Corp. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Thursday prior to the service.
