Delbert O. Wilhelm, 89, of Normal, Illinois and formerly of New Castle went home to be with the Lord on Monday March 30, 2026 while surrounded by his family. He was born July 24, 1936 in Greenfield, Indiana to the late Donald E. and Bernice M. (Armstrong) Wilhelm.
Delbert was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School then joined the Air Force serving from 1954 to 1958, while stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He married the love of his life, Shirley E. Troxell on July 28, 1956. He retired from Dana Corporation following 32 years of working in the maintenance department. Following retirement from Dana, he served families for over 20 years with Marcum Community Funeral Home. Delbert’s faith was strong and he lived his life serving God and was a faithful member of The Sanctuary in New Castle for many years and more recently Full Gospel Church in Heyworth, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. Wilhelm; sons, Jeffrey A. (wife, Angela) Wilhelm of Normal, Illinois, Tony E. (wife, Diana) Wilhelm of Kodak, Tennessee; grandchildren, Pastor Greg (wife, Lynette) Wilhelm, Christina (husband, Adam) Ortega, Amanda (husband, Kell) Carr, Alyssa Wilhelm, TJ (wife, Jessica)Wilhelm and Alex (wife, Tessa) Wilhelm; 8 great grandchildren, Madyson, Alyvia, Rigley, Shayla (husband, Griffin) Clayton, Presley, America, and Shamira (a new great grandchild due in September and more great grandchildren children as God sees fit) great great granddaughter, Charlie and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jearldine Clark and a brother, Earl Lee Wilhelm.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at The Sanctuary of New Castle in New Castle, 2208 E. Broad St. New Castle, IN 47362, with Pastors Greg Wilhelm and Jeff Jaco officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens with military honors provided by contingents from the U.S. Air Force, American Legion/VFW. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flower’s, monetary donations to the family c/o Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S.
