Donald Ray Groce

Donald “Don” Ray Groce, 85, passed away on April 24, 2026, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on June 24, 1960, in New Castle to Roy and Helen Groce.

Don graduated from Blue River Valley High School in 1978. He dedicated much of his life to his craft, working in sheet metal for 20 years in Lapel before spending 15 years at Chrysler until his retirement.

For the past 16 years, Don called Albany, Kentucky his home. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing, hunting, boating, and swimming in Dale Hollow Lake. His love for sports extended beyond watching college basketball and football; he cherished coaching little league baseball and football in New Castle, instilling passion and teamwork in countless young players.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Deven (Hannah) Groce, Darrell Groce, and Misty (Shannon) Groce; grandchildren, Mayleigh Groce, Deagan Groce, Shalynn Groce, and Austin Thompkins; and his parents, Roy and Helen Groce.

Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Sherri Jo Groce and David Bruce Groce; great aunt, Nancy Runion; and both paternal and maternal grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 7:00pm, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until the time of the service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County Humaine Society at 11 Midway Dr., New Castle, IN, 47362.
