Doris J. Davis, 94, a former resident of New Castle went to receive her eternal reward on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at the home of her daughter in Trinity, Florida. She was born October 9, 1931 in New Castle to the late Chester Bryon and Mildred Ova (West) Groves.
Doris met her future husband of 66 years, Rev. Leon Davis and they were married at the Broad Street Church of the Nazarene on August 29, 1948. Much of their ministry was served in the Indianapolis and Morristown areas. Most recently, they served as senior adult pastor at New Castle First Church of the Nazarene where they were also directors of the JOY Club. Her hobbies included sewing and traveling. Doris was most happy being a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, but most of all, a servant of God.
Survivors include two daughters: Sharon Maddox of Trinity, FL and Sheryl (Hartcel) Martin of Lamar, MS; grandchildren: Michelle and Jeff Barrick of Florida, Jeff and Jennifer Maddox of Florida, Shannon and Jerry Johnson of Indianapolis and Deshon and Dwane Smith of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren: Spencer Barrick, Isaac, Caleb and Seth Maddox, Keelan Smith, Colton and Kendra Chapman and Nicole and Jonah Thacker; great great-grandchildren: Serinity and Sage Chapman, Nyrah and Zara Thacker; sister: Joan Sexton of Fairmount, IN and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her son-in-law: Dan Maddox; four brothers: Clyde, Robert, Lloyd and Howard Groves and a sister: Edna Mae Green.
Services will be held at 12:00pm Monday, July 13, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery, Wilkinson, IN. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of the service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 681405, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268.
