Dorothy L. Brown

Dorothy L. Brown, 85, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great- great grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 28, 2026, at her granddaughter’s house following an extended battle with dementia.

She was born November 1, 1940, at Henry County Hospital, the daughter of George Wallace Neel and Ellen I Cook.

Dorothy married the love of her life Everett L. Brown on June 6, 1958. This year they celebrated 68 years of marriage and 72 years of knowing each other. They had one son, Lance.

She was a housewife, and mother and had many hobbies from arranging flowers to bottle-feeding baby wildlife and releasing them as they were able to live in the wild. She was also instrumental in the construction of their home in the early 60’s. When asked what was the best gift that she ever received from dad, without hesitation it was an electric cement mixer used in the laying of the stone on their home.

She was a member of Foursquare Church in New Castle for many years.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Everett, son Lance (Christy) grandchildren Ashley (Rodney) Winkle, Josh (Brittani) Brown, all of New Castle; great grandchildren, Mark Winkle, Emily Winkle (Jake Simms), Brian Winkle, Bridget Winkle, Keaton Brown, Kolton Brown and a great- great granddaughter. Everett, Lance, and the entire family would like to thank Ashley for her loving care of mom over the last year. The family would also like to thank Henry Community Health Hospice for their compassionate care.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Azalia West and brother George Neel.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Shelly Dennis officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
