Dr. Robert Stephens

DR. ROBERT E. STEPHENS, age 66 of Indianapolis died Monday, August 4, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born January 12, 1942 in Union City, Indiana a son of the late John W. and Juanita E. (Baxter) Stephens.

He was a 1960 graduate of Union City, Indiana Community High School. He also received his doctorate degree at a bible college in Atlanta, Georgia. He pastored Congregational Christian Church in Ridgeville, IN and pastored Word of Life Tabernacle in Muncie. He was a national evangelist for the Church of God in Christ for over 28 years and had been a member of the Prince of Peace Church of God in Christ for over 28 years.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, whom he married Nov. 21, 1964: Dortha D. Stephens of Indianapolis; seven children: Lowell (wife: Mary) Stephens of Indianapolis, Linda Stephens of Indianapolis, Cheryl (husband: Jim) Pollitt of Indianapolis, Pastor Barry E. (wife: Cindy) Stephens of Indianapolis, Tony (wife: Velma) Stephens of Seattle, WA, Danny (wife: Lydia) Stephens of Seattle, WA and Sandy (husband: Khevin) Watterson of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; fourteen brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews; and a very large extended family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Mary Basil; one grandson: Matthew Benjamin Stephens; and a great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Grace Assembly, 860 S. Belmont Ave., Indpls with Eld. James E. T. Harris, Senior Pastor of Prince of Peace Church of God in Christ, Pastor Barry E. Stephens of Grace Assembly and Pastor Norman Gallimore of Fredricksburg, VA officiating. Funeral services will also be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2008 at Grace Assembly with calling hours two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Gettysburg Cemetery in Gettysburg, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Memorial contributions may be given to the Missions Dept. of Grace Assembly with envelopes available at the church.
