Edith Jane Ford, 94, passed away peacefully at her home, on November 3, 2025. She was born on August 25, 1931, in Chicago, IL, to the late Stewart and Elsa (Seiler) Rouse.

As a longtime employee at the Courier Times in New Castle, Edith dedicated herself to her work with commitment and diligence. Yet, it was her roles beyond her career that painted the true essence of who she was: a mother, a friend, and an active member of her community.

Edith found profound joy and solace in her faith as a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle. Her love for reading and studying the Bible was not just a pastime; it was a cornerstone of her existence, shaping her strong moral compass and deepening her connection with God. Throughout her life, she embraced nature’s beauty. Bird watching became one of her cherished hobbies, and she developed an admirable collection of birdhouses and lighthouses that reflected her appreciation for the outdoors.

Those who knew Edith understood that she loved her sons dearly. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love created an environment filled with warmth and understanding. She often expressed her hopes for the world, emphasizing her desire for more love. Some of her last words serve as a testament to the compassion and kindness that marked her character: “Wanting more love in the world.”

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Mathew Ford (companion Ramona Ritchie); grandson, Andrew “Andy” Ford; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, David Ford; son, Andrew Ford; and siblings, Patricia (Rouse) Parmley, Dennis Rouse, Connie Rouse, and infant Charlotte Rouse.

There will be a private graveside service held by the family. Cremation will take place at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Memorial contributions can be made to the Henry County Animal Shelter at 11 Midway Dr., New Castle, IN 47362. You may express condolences or share a memory of Edith at www.hinsey-brown.com.
