Eleanor Louise Clevenger, 86, was peacefully called to her heavenly home surrounded by her loved ones on May 27th, 2026, after a short-term illness.
Eleanor was born to Noble Fielden and Gertrude (Winkler) Fielden on December 18th, 1939, in her families home in Spiceland Indiana. Eleanor married her husband Charles Clevenger on April 15th, 1980, in New Castle, Indiana, the two of them shared 46 years of many memories together.
Eleanor grew up in Spiceland Indiana with her 5 siblings. Eleanor enjoyed spending moments with her mother Gertrude and her grandmother Lena Pearl learning the ends and outs of being a homemaker, and attending church with her grandmother. Eleanor was a 1957 graduate of Spiceland High School, where she was also a proud member of the Hornets color guard, member of the school choir and FHA. Eleanor was a member of county 4-H where she won various awards for her homemaking skills, she also won Betty Crocker Homemaker of the year in her high school graduation class, a feat she was very proud of. Eleanor spent 50 years of her adult life dedicated to raising her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, a job with 0 days off that she did proudly and deeply filled in love.
Eleanor was a glorious cook who could make some of the best family meals that were always seasoned-and-buttered in love, specifically her mashed potatoes, pistachio pudding, and potato salad. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family to come over for dinner, to sit around the dining table to reminisce and catch up on the latest gossips. Her kitchen was always filled to the brim with snacks and candy for her grandchildren to enjoy when they came to visit, never lacking in Reese Cups and Kit-Kats. Eleanor’s love could be felt in many places, but most importantly in her love for having family gatherings to catch up on the ends and outs of her families lives.
Eleanor enjoyed flower gardening and took pride in caring for them properly. She was a collector of various knick-knacks over the years, notably Coca-Cola memorabilia, Mary’s Moo-Moos cows, Boyd’s Bears, mint coins, and Tiffany Lamps. The biggest part of her collecting was from her love of online shopping on her computer where she loved shopping for the latest styles of shoes and clothes from QVC and Kohl’s. If her family ever needed a new clothing item, she was first to offer to order it for them. On top of her clothing items, Eleanor was always seen wearing a beautiful necklace or her rings that never left her fingers. She was a simple woman, who never took part in vanity, and welcomed everyone by the love that came from their heart.
Eleanor enjoyed true country music, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride, George Jones, and most notably Alan Jackson. She enjoyed attending many of Alan Jackson’s concerts from Indiana, Iowa, and Tennessee she was traveling to see him perform.
Eleanor spent the later years of her life traveling various places with her family. Her favorite vacation was traveling to Pigeon Forge Tennessee every year to see the Smoky Mountains and to indulge in shopping. It was important to her, that in her travels she brought home a magnet from every place she visited. She was blessed to have a refrigerator filled with memories of the places she and her family were able to visit together. She was always up for a good meal, and enjoyed going out to dinners with her family. Eleanor spent much time dedicated to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved having them over for sleepovers, meals, afternoons spent on her porch, watching their favorite cartoons while sitting in her recliner with them, attending their sporting events, and showering them in as much love as she could. On a quite morning you could find her in her recliner watching newest soap opera and enjoying a large glass of vanilla iced coffee.
Eleanor filled a large portion of the love that every child and grandchild could ever need. If you needed help, someone to babysit, or a listening ear, you always knew you could turn to her. Eleanor will be missed by all whom were blessed to know her.
A perfect lyric from her one of her favorite Alan Jackson songs, “we won’t be sad, we’ll be glad for all the life we had, and we’ll Remember When.”
