Elizabeth Arvella Baker

Sadly, our mother, Elizabeth Arvella Baker, 80, of New Castle, passed away on Monday April 13, 2026, at Addison Place. She was born on April 19, 1945, in Henry County to the late Arthur and Elsie J. (Massengale) Perdue.

In 1963 she married the love of her life William Robert “Bill” Baker.

Arvella worked at New Castle State Hospital and Knightstown Children’s Home. In her spare time Arvella was a member of New Castle’s Rose City Rods and Machines Car Club. She enjoyed riding in Bill’s 1949 Mercury or driving her 1941 Ford convertible. Any excuse to go to a Cruise-In or a Car Show was a good day, as well as excursions around the country with other Car Club members.

She is survived by her daughters, Trina (Gary) Solgere of Greensburg and Kristie (Joe) Magee of Crestview, Florida; son, Trent (Peggy Clare) Baker of New Castle; four grandchildren, Ashley Solgere, Evan Solgere, Seth Baker and Austin Magee; two great grandchildren, Remy and Brooks Solgere; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

In addition to her parents Arvella is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Baker; son, Jody Baker; sisters, Nettie (Ralph) Lester and Glenna (Carlos) Lowe; brother, Junior (Catherine) Massengale.

Services will be at 11:30 am on Monday April 20, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Brian Neal officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn addition. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the service. A reception will follow at Grace Baptist Church.
