Ernest Leroy Swoveland
August 2, 1929 — January 9, 2024
Ernest Leroy Swoveland, passed away January, 9, 2024 at his residence. He was born August 2, 1929 in Stoney Creek Township, Indiana, a son of the late Walter and Gladys (Brown) Swoveland.
Ernest was a lifelong farmer, resident of rural Henry County and member of the Buck Creek Church of the Brethren. He was Past Master and member of the Masonic Lodge No. 674 Losantville for 65 years and a member of the New Castle Chapter No. 116 Order of the Eastern Star for 64 years. Ernest was a 58-year member of the Union Township Lions Club. Having a love for collecting rocks, Ernest would collect rocks from all over the world, gathering them from places that he was visiting. He loved traveling and spending time in Canada during summer and Florida during the Winter. Ernest attended Center High School, which was located, close to the Muncie Reservoir.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Tom) Ring and Sandi (Dwain) Robinson; grandchildren, Jeff Ring, Craig (Mary Jo) Ring, Tami (Mike) Bache, Ken (Diane) Robinson and Shane (Kelly) Robinson; 16 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, his is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Rush) Swoveland; a son, Ernie Swoveland; great-grandchild, Andrew Hilsky; a brother, Fred Swoveland and his sister-in-law, Iva Jane Swoveland.
The family would like to thank Henry Community Health Hospice for the wonderful care that they gave Ernest.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 3:00pm – 6:00pm at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana with Masonic Rites and Order of the Eastern Star Service Sunday, January 14 th at 5:30pm at the funeral home. Services will be held on Monday, January 15 th at 11:00am at Buck Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Kevin Whitmore and Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Buck Creek Church of the Brethren, 8802 North Buck Creek Pike, Mooreland, IN 47360.
