Ethel Ruth Butler, of Knightstown, lived a full life for 83 years. Born March 30, 1940 to the late Lee and Ada (Nolen) Jones, she passed peacefully on May 5, 2023.
She enjoyed nearly 61 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Carl Butler. They were parted only by his death on March 15, 2019.
Ruth was a member of the Knightstown Christian Church. Having the heart of a Christian, she and Carl spent many years providing home cooked meals for the senior members of the church, those that were shut in and ill. Her true passion was caring for babies and children. She helped care for her younger siblings while growing up, enjoyed raising her own children and spending time with her 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ruth’s love of babies was the foundation of Ruthie’s Day Care. For 25+ years she provided in-home childcare for many Knightstown families. She also enjoyed working in the yard with Carl, planting and growing flowers, pulling weeds and sitting on the front porch swing together.
Ruth is survived by her children, Terri (Tony) Hamilton, Rita (Gary) Wyatt and Greg (Diane) Butler; grandchildren, Rachelle (D.J.) Allen, Kelly (Kyle) Davisson, Ross Wyatt, Brent Butler, J.T. (fiancé, Kenzie Brown) Butler and Jessica Butler; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Carly, Coryn and Max; brother, Roger (Sherry) Jones; and brother-in-law, L.J. Lines.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl; a son, Robert Dale; brothers, Arnold, Raymond, Ray, Lee Roy and Jerry Jones; sisters, Violet Butler, Barbara Jones and Kathy Lines.
