Etta Mae Schlenz, 98, of Greenfield passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Crown Point Senior Living. She was born January 14, 1928 in Kennard, Indiana to Lewis and Bessie Mae (Rhoades) Meredith.
Etta Mae was a 1946 graduate of Knightstown High School. Following her graduation, she began her career with Western Electric in Indianapolis, retiring after 27 and a half years of loyal service before briefly lending her nurturing spirit to working as a nanny.
Beyond her professional life, Etta Mae was deeply devoted to her faith as a longtime member of Harvestime Assembly of God in Indianapolis and then First Assembly of God in New Castle where she generously shared her time as a Sunday school teacher for many years and choir member in her earlier years.
Those left to cherish Etta Mae’s memory are a daughter, and Michelle (Larry) Eltzroth of New Palestine; stepson, Joe (Dawn) Schlenz; three grandchildren, Denise (Richard) Mahon of Greenfield, Jonathan (Amanda) Spencer of New Palestine and Nathan Spencer of New Palestine; six great-grandchildren, Evan, Aaron, Jaclyn, Brianna, Dylan and Matthew; two great great-grandchildren, Finn and Arys; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Etta Mae was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Carlene Neff; son-in-law, Gene Neff; granddaughter, Dana Horan; stepson, Mark Schlenz; five brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God, 3600 S. Memorial Dr. New Castle, IN 47362.
